My name is Kate Churches, and my maiden name was Kathleen Fair Douglas.

I’m a native of Greenville, SC where I live and work.

Originally an acrylic painter, my work is predominantly mixed media.

My work is comprised of many layers, usually a watercolor background embellished with acrylic paint marks. The next layer is collage with my hand-colored, embellished papers. The final layer consists of inks, usually black and white.

Generally, I use found objects as mark-making tools rather than commercially made stamps and stencils. One of my favorite tools is a drain cover from the dollar store. A sink mat, rug gripper pad, foam stickers — any of these items may used in an artwork. Something I love is finding an unexpected new material.

When I’m not creating mixed media artwork, I might be taking photos, baking, painting, writing, waterfall-hunting or just hanging out with my kids making crafts.
